Classically good looking

Whether working, or life is on hold in some way during lock-down, we’ve no doubt all had a little time (in between homeschooling, DIY-ing, gardening and box-set watching) to consider changes we might, or might not want to make to our lives when some new way of life emerges post lock-down. Do we want to go back to life as it was before?

How we spend our free time and with whom, is also up there for consideration (there are meet ups and many hugs needed) along with how we spend our money (or even earn our money – but that’s another conversation) once some kind of ‘normal’ life resumes post lock down.

Mr E-E and I have invested in paint and then some for DIY projects during lock down. During this time I’ve not really had a huge desire to spend money on clothes and the like… partly nowhere to go, but also… if I’m honest I’ve kind of got enough of what I actually need, for now…

There are always itches to scratch – but as much as there is the thrill of getting something delivered – I don’t need, or want to have so much ‘stuff’ to wade through, or even look to then store out of season.

There are many reports and articles being written about the future of shopping and fashion and how we, brands and retailers are going to navigate our way through the next… however long. Rightly so, the ‘buy less, buy better’ phrase has never felt so right. The UK high street is brilliant – full stop. Whichever way you look at it, there is something for every budget, shape and style.

There are some fabulous sales on at present with stores desperate to lure cash from our pockets. if you’re in the market, now is a perfect time to snag a bargain… The following pieces are from generally our high street friends (but at slightly higher price points) – but classic wardrobe staples that will work hard, and for seasons to come so costs per wear etc…

So though I may still struggle with me wearing summer dresses per se, I can live vicariously through you no? A white summer dress. I’d love to… really…

Many many years ago I worked with someone who had a version of this dress in two or three different colours, in the summer she wore them almost in rotation; they always looked good… whether with flip flops, trainers or heels.
Beautiful.

Staying with this stunning shade of blue… a wide leg jumpsuit? Yes please.

Safety first… a go-anywhere jumpsuit in reassuring black.

This type of silk strappy top feels like something one (a grown up) should have in ones wardrobe, perfect for layering, or under a jacket… (yes, it’s also available in black)

Personally I wouldn’t probably go for this full on ensemble, but I love these wide leg pants… they would look amazing with both of the above tops as well. (And in winter with boots…)

I originally saved this image for the hat – which I think looks fabulous… but then the dress is also pretty amazing. Love the colour too.

Wafty, fluid, dress up, dress down-able (I love it with these jeans) a go-to always going to look good top.

Classic linen summer jacket, that could work year after year?
Whistles Tailored Neutral jacket £119.20

Whistles Tailored Neutral jacket £119.20

This wouldn’t necessarily be my regular choice of top – PRINT – but I love the ease of this, and it’s pretty, and great dressed down with these jeans – this again could come out summer after summer and always look fabulous.

Interestingly – this top is available for pre-order (by 30 June) for delivery a few weeks later… a far more economical (& sustainable) way for brands to produce by making to order – and then not be left with loads of stock that need to be discounted at the end of the season.

Finally – I mean why not? It’s festival season – from home this year – but this (made to order) sequinned jumpsuit would also, in my opinion be a classic – always looking amazing whether at a wedding, a festival or party… I wonder if it might be too much for camping this year now we can go…?
