I’ve just got back from a two day shopping trip to Madrid for work. I won’t lie, it is ridiculously good fun to spend someone else’s money, even if the days are long and step count high.
I’ve never been to Madrid before; it’s beautiful: the architecture is stunning, the tapas delicious and the vino tinto, plentiful….
Amongst the pants & bras we were buying to inspire our team was the outerwear & footwear. The usual suspects were there in the H&M’s, Mango’s & Zara’s but the independents were much more interesting and why we were there; to see brands and stores we don’t have in the UK. In one part of town there was a shoe shop with some mustard/ochre coloured ankle boots… I was smitten… until I saw the weird shaped heel – mere details; but it inspired me to think what I might already actually have. Or, might *need*.
Way back in the mists of time I lived on ‘the other side of town’ where with a bit of a bus ride I could get to High Street Kensington. Hours could be lost mooching, faffing & trying on… this was also in the day pre-internet shopping (😱) and pre-children who would steal my disposable income.
Having switched postcodes I don’t tend to get to head that way now, too many tube changes… one place I do miss, and was reminded of the other day by seeing an advert on the tube was Jones The Bootmaker.
So today… bearing in mind I may talk the talk of wanting to wear more colour, in reality… I’m perhaps not so good at it. But introducing some colour to an outfit via a pair of ankle boots, I can do this; it can change an outfit up completely.
I find I don’t wear coloured boots that often, but in buying more classic styles they last and last, and can come out year after year; they also rest my hard working boots/shoes/trainers that I wear most.
Jones the Bootmaker have some great styles… this leopard print pair is part of a ad campaign that is about at the moment. I think these are some of the best leopard print boots I’ve seen – they are quite low cut around the ankle, great walk-all-day heel height… and print scale and colours that is just, well, right.
Jones the Bootmaker Florence Leopard Ankle Boot £110
I love this colour; these are in line with the mustard pair I saw in Madrid… much better heels though. These would look SO good with navy, or denim.
Mango Cowboy Leather boots £99
Brighter still – these could be all year rounders.
Office Aubergine Curved Heel Ankle boots Mustard Leather £89
Stunning orangey-conker colour with a higher heel, quite pointy, maybe size up for comfort?
Topshop Hawk Angled Heel £79
Gorgeous green… great again with navy, and black. Love the curve detail on the heel.
& Other Stories Suede Ankle Boots £89
Staying suede, a more casual boot, love this pale grey shade… with navy/denim. Gorgeous. Dry autumn/winter days only though.
Mint Velvet Nova Grey Cowboy Boot £149
Checked ankle boot… I’m less keen on the styling here/colour of the denim – but I could see these with smarter black trousers for work.
M&S Extra Wide Fit Block Heel Ankle Boot £39.50
After resisting the snake print boot… I’m seeing it’s merits now. Dammit, I had some not dissimilar to this from Miss Selfridge back in the day… where are they now???
Steve Madden at Dune, Cafe sm Western Ankle Boot £125
All the blues now… perfect for a colour blocking look with denim?
Dune Pericle Side Zip Stacked Heel Ankle Boot £120
Higher heels, but still block and walk-able. Love the dipped front.
John Lewis & Partners Wilemina Shoe Boots Navy Suede, £99
A MAD colour – but I love this… not as a walk-able height, but with a colour this bright, I think you’d want to just stand, and let others admire.
Mango Heel Leather Ankle Boot £89.99
Finally, and saying this very quietly, we can’t deny that the C-word is coming up, where gatherings and events may happen. I think that these are a great price for a pair of boots you might not get masses of wear from… but are perfect keepers for the season and to bring out each year, and they’ll keep your toes warm. Winner.
M&S Collection Kitten Heel Side Zip Ankle Boots £39.50
I’m going to try very hard to give some of my coloured boots an airing, more often than I do… and not just default to black.
What coloured boots and shoes to you have… and actually wear?!
