Could the Shirt dress be…

Being British and therefore weather obsessed, sometimes all of the weather-app watching in the world won’t really help with knowing what to wear; in the last week alone… how are we supposed to be able to plan any kind of outfit for the day without taking with us 17 extra bags of things that ‘might be needed’… sun cream, flip flops, umbrella, jumper, boots. It’s exhausting.

I was on the tube early the other morning and it was already reaching sweaty o-clock, I  saw a couple of different women looking so effortlessly cool and chic wearing Shirt dresses with not a sweaty top lip in sight.

Perhaps the shirt dress may just be the answer in figuring out what to wear? They’re great for layering over jeans or trousers, (shortly we will all be wearing dresses over trousers anyway, according to Vogue, so lets get ahead), vest tops or camisoles can slip under if chilly… or simply wear as is, buttoning/unbuttoning to your hearts content on hotter and balmier days. I’m convinced. Handily there’s also lots of choices too for those that prefer legs out/legs covered.

So straight in with this beauty… loving the co-ordinating earrings too.

OK, this steers slightly away from the brief, but the tie neck detail, loose-ness… and sleeve cuff detail, I couldn’t not include…

I do have an innate fear of looking too grown up, even if I am a real life grown up. Whilst this shirt dress is a smarter design, in this lightweight denim it doesn’t scare me (as much). This dress is also more of an investment piece, but it’s such a classic this could come out year after year, and with a change of shoe/trainer… another fine multi-tasker.

Jigsaw £299

Or this from Boden £80. I love the contrast belt.

Boden Sophia Shirt dress £80

This last shirt dress could be the one though (if I don’t look too hard at the price)… This dress works for me in combining some of my most favourite elements… black, polka dots, the length, and there’s a nod to the pj dressing look, and just that little twist of something in the embroidery detail on the patch pocket.
