Gimme sunshine…

The wonderful thing about fashion is that you can dabble and dip a toe in, or just jump on in head first. Inspired by the brief interlude yesterday when there were actual real life sunshine; yellow – what colour signifies spring more?

Admittedly yellow can be a tricky colour, and I read somewhere only the other day it’s the colour that more people fear wearing than any other. Now in researching for this piece I’ve realised something… I will not be wearing yellow head to toe. Ever. But a dash or even splash here and there, yes, I could manage that just to help that sartorial shift of winter into spring.

Colours that yellow looks great with – any shade of blue, white, cream, stone or tan or clash it with red or bright pink… Black, or too much black with yellow does then shout wasp at me; though I am happy to be convinced otherwise… For me, white, navy or denim – sorted.

I mentioned a fabulous round cross body bag from M&S last week, that I felt could work with just about anything. I still absolutely stand by that; it’s gorgeous. Here are some other pieces I’ve found that I could wear to ‘up’ my current wardrobe situation…

Easing in with an underwear piece – I’m a firm advocate of a bralette… check out the pineapple lace… M&S £9.50.

A fuller more yolky yellow is this square neck cami from Topshop, £14. Great under jackets – blazers or denim.

Perhaps then even this t-shirt, Daisy Street from Asos, £9.99. This again will work with all shades of denim. I’d wear this to a meeting with dark indigo jeans, black blazer/jacket and some possibly uncomfortable but fabulous high heeled boots…

I might also need a jazzy earring to pull things together. I don’t think I’ve found better than these Resin and Tassel from Topshop, £15. I love them and very soon they will be mine. The blue pulls in the denim I’d inevitably wear them with…

A belt is another easy nod to spring, this Italian leather belt is from Uniqlo, £24.90 is something where you can just get in a flash of colour without travelling too far out of one’s comfort zone.

Bags then? How about this super soft leather pouch from Whistles, £49.

More casual – I love these string bags with all of their retro-ness, this is £14 from Rock & Rose at Asos. How good does it look with the denim & floral print?

These Converse trainers are fab, £65.

Asos Converse One Star Ox £65

Still not convinced about yellow? A scarf then tied around a bag handle, can give just a little pep up… & Other Stories, £17 – see how the blue back ground calms things down.

Sufficiently eased in? Then what about this eye popping yellow blazer, I love it, white tee, indigo or black jeans. Done. Super simple, a classic shape that’s not going to date too quickly. Topshop, £60.

Topshop double breasted suit jacket £60

This dress from M&S, £45 surprised me… I really like it. I’d need to spike it with standard gauge white trainers and/or black biker jacket so I didn’t feel too grown up/lady like – unless I was going to a ‘do’… then I’d still have to accessorise with black to toughen it… what I’m trying to say is… its a ladylike dress that I think is lovely, I would wear it, but with…

Finally – this beauty from Zara, £29.99. Love it styled with the black & white spot top… but oh the trying to behave to keep it clean… ah – whatever – one would just have to swirl and twirl in this regardless.

So yellow – could you? Are you? I am – even just starting gently with a jazzy earring – bring it on! xx

PS; the beautiful painting in the title image is by the super talented Peter Galton.
