By very definition that sounds wrong. Surely we shouldn’t need them?
We’re just into August – so where oh where is the sun? The South of France – in 16 days… and counting.
At this point in proceedings I don’t want to be buying out right summer things, my mind is shifting to autumn and items that will carry me through from now until November (before I then feel I can justify sparkles & sequins.)
I’ve done my best and trawled the sales and even found a few beauties that would be great for winter… giant sequins – perfect for dress down (ish) parties – and though I dismissed it then, now I’m thinking about it again, I may just have one more quick look.
I digress. I don’t want to be buying anything really, in readiness for winter, that I then feel I can’t wear for months. IT. IS. AUGUST. So here it what I’ve found that could be useful additions to our wardrobes now – wardrobe mainstays that can slide in quietly. Oh this? Had it for ages.
This is great for autumn from Zara, £25.99 with frayed cuffs & hem.
More stripes from Mango £17.99 in two colourways. I can see these working with numerous other colours/denim, under a blazer, or more casually.
A slightly smarter option is this military version with button detailing, £39.99 from Mango.
Zara have gone all out with colours right now… a bit spoilt for choice here with their basics split side £12.99 jumpers, at this price rude not to have more than one.
More brights from Mango, in New Wool £35.99, I love the colour clash of the pinks, but am actually far more drawn, (and more likely to wear) the mid blue with the grey trousers.
Cashmere options from the high street include this classic V neck from Uniqlo, £69.00.
H&M also offer cashmere sweaters in three colours, £79.99, round or V-neck. Blush, dark blue & beige. Beautiful.
Introducing some texture; the pleats on the sleeves are gorgeous. This is from Mango in Dark Orange, £35.99 who are streets ahead in getting ready seemingly for autumn… also available in black. Phew.
More texture from Uniqlo, cotton cashmere cable look, £24.90.
Staying with pale and interesting; this is a super pretty shade of pink from Hush in a linen/cotton blend £49.50, looks great here teamed with denim shorts, but will work just as well later on with navy or black trousers.
H&M have a grab-able priced easy piece, £17.99 and available in 7 colours. I’m becoming increasingly obsessed by this wine/oxblood colour.
Keeping with this autumnal type shade, and a khaki colour I can’t get enough of; this is from Gap £25.95, available in 7 colours.
Similar colour but a chunky cotton knit from Me+Em, £99.00, also available in 5 shades.
Back to the safety of stripes and monochrome, £34.00 from Topshop.
Even wider stripes… just love this slashed sleeve detail… not sure on the practicality of actually wearing it to do anything… mere details. Topshop £36.00.
Keeping on the monochrome, M&S £39.50, really like the sleeve length and proportion, easy to wear as is now, or layer with a thin polo neck in colder months.
Oh I’m sorry this is turning into a monochrome stripe-fest… but there are so many good ones out there. Unexpected stitch detailing from And/Or John Lewis, £59.00
So this is a round up of some plainer numbers, to refresh and add in for the next few weeks and beyond. Jazzier/logo sweaters are to follow….!
